88elcome to Better Systems & Operations, THE newsletter for micro-businesses who are ready to run their business without it running them into the ground. When I have something worth sharing, you'll get practical tips on systems for tiny teams, operations that actually make sense, and keeping your business in its place. Because your real life is the center of the universe, not your business.

Heyyy {{first_name}}!

I have a secret.

Today’s email is just as much for me as it is for you.

Because I’ve been trying to write a single newsletter to you for two weeks and I just keep making it complicated.

But it doesn’t have to be complicated.

I’ve been talking about simplicity for a long time and how I’m constantly moved to make things simpler.

Like when I was high school valedictorian and I gave a speech about enjoying the simple things in life instead of getting caught up in all that’s shiny.

And as I’ve been restructuring my business over the last few weeks, it’s been pretty hectic as I try to make everything perfect and beautiful and, well, more complicated than it needs to be.

Sometimes we need to take a step back and consider how we can make things a little more simple.

SOMETHING COOL FROM MY NETWORK

THESE MONTHLY MONEY TALKS SIMPLIFY YOUR BUSINESS FINANCES

My friends Aneisha Velazquez hosts monthly Money Talks for free. Money Talks is a conversation about business finances and the systems behind them, for creative and neurodivergent microbusinesses. You bring a money question and you’ll leave with a little clarity.

ONE HOUR WIN CHALLENGE

THE GREAT UNSUBSCRIBING

Today you’re going to set a timer for an hour and you’re going to go into your inbox and unsubscribe to newsletters you don’t read.

Start with your business inbox and spend 30 minutes looking through emails from the people and tools you get. Pick a minimum of 5 to unsubscribe from. Then move on to your personal if you have time left.

Checking your email should be simple, not take 2 hours a day. You don’t need all of those emails. It’s time to say goodbye to some.

Hit reply and let me know you completed this challenge for accountability and I’ll send you a cheery gif!

OPERATIONS THAT MAKE SENSE

DO MORE TOOLS MAKE YOUR OPERATIONS BETTER?

In my experience, more never means better.

This does not mean that I’m a big supporter of all-in-one tools like GHL. I’m actually not fond of GHL at all unless you have the right kind of business model for what it is.

But trying out all the new and exciting things trying to make your operations run smoother rarely reaches your intended goal.

Plus, I find that business owners with too many tools forget what each of them are for and aren’t using each of them to their fullest capacity.

And it’s not because they like one tool better than another.

It’s because they are taking advice from other people and think they are doing what’s best without considering what’s ACTUALLY best for THEIR BUSINESS.

So before you go and sign up for one more tool, consider what you already have, what you really need, and what problem you’re really trying to solve.

Will more tech make your business operate better?

Or will it just cause more noise for you to sift through?

Get Your First SOP Done

On July 16th at 2:30PM EST, I’m hosting a workshop to model how to write an SOP using my template. I’ll show you how to do it and explain how & what I decide to include in each SOP. As we move through the process, you’ll have the opportunity to ask me all of your questions about the SOP you are writing for your business. After the workshop, you can email me your SOP for my personal feedback on it. It’s like school, but for SOPs and it’s $15 if you register with code 1STSOPEMAIL.

Know someone who needs this workshop? Please give them code 1STSOPREFERRAL for $10 off as the $15 off code is ONLY for subscribers of Better Systems & Operations. Thank you!

Have a question about anything I wrote in this email? Either comment on the post online or send me a reply. I LOVE getting your messages 😄 .

I hope this week is the best ever.

P.S. My son lost a tooth last night and decided to put it in a Ziploc bag on the table by my bed. It’s still there. Like WHYYYYY???

For those of you who are parents, what are we doing with these kids’ teeth? Like I’m 10 years in and I still don’t know what I’m supposed to do when they fall out. Bury them? Flush them? Put them in the trash? I will not be making any creepy necklaces, so what’s the consensus here?
